The Rappahannock Regional Criminal Justice Academy offers a law enforcement pre-employment training program. The program allows qualified individuals who are not currently employed with a law enforcement agency the opportunity to attend an 18 week Law Enforcement Basic Academy.  Students who successfully complete the training receive law enforcement certification in Virginia making them potentially more competitive for employment in the law enforcement profession.
Candidates meeting minimum requirements must successfully complete an oral interview,
written test, physical examination, drug screening, psychological examination, and background
investigation.  Upon successful completion of the background investigation and acceptance into the pre-employment program, students would be responsible for payment of tuition fees and other administrative costs associated with the training.  The Rappahannock Regional Criminal Justice Academy’s law enforcement basic training program is an approved program for military veterans who qualify for the Montgomery G.I. Bill. **Effective October 1, 2011, Chapter 33, Post 9-11 GI Bill educational benefits can be utilized for the L.E. and Jail Pre-Employment programs.

Admission Requirements
•    Must be 21 years of age at the completion of training. Candidates over the age of 18 but less than 21 may
      request an age requirment waiver.
•    Must be a U.S. citizen or currently in the citizen naturalization process
•    Possess a valid operator’s license
•    High School Diploma or G.E.D.
•    Successfully pass a physical examination by a licensed physician
•    Successfully pass a drug screening test
•    Successfully pass the oral interview process
•    Successfully pass the background investigation
•    Successfully pass a psychological examination
•    No Felony convictions
•    No  convictions for Domestic Assault
•    No convictions of two or more DUI or DWI related offenses
•    Drug history and past criminal activity will be scrutinized
•    Must be able to be a credible witness in court
•    No convictions of crimes of moral turpitude to include petit larceny

Qualified candidates who successfully complete the admission requirements and are invited to attend the academy are responsible for payment of tuition fees and other administrative costs
associated with the training.

•    Use of Leather gear/handcuffs/baton
•    Use of Firearm and ammunition

 The $50.00 non-refundable Application Fee is payableto the Academy upon submission of the candidate’s application. Additional costs to obtain military, education, birth certificate, court documents, or other records as required by the applicant process are the responsibility of the candidate.

Once a candidate is invited to proceed with a background investigation, the candidate is
responsible for costs associated with the background investigation, physical examination,
psychological examination, drug screening, and a $250.00 non-refundable
RRCJA Administrative Processing Fee.
